Shulamit Ran (innate 1949) is an Israeli-American composer. She moved from either Israel to New York at 14. Her Symphony (1991) won her a Pulitzer Prize. She occurs as longtime academician of the University of Chicago and has served as composer-inside-home by having each a Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Lyric Opera. Additional recently she wrote the Violin Concerto (2003) for the Israeli fiddler Ittai Shapira.

Numbers of critics own commented on the combination of raw power & definitive structure around Ran's act. Ran has written that she considers classical-era composer Ludwig Van Beethoven her "compositional idol," and her function combines the taste for rigorous structural logic using the unique brand of "free atonality."
